The Webark 5k that was held in Glen Dale, WV was more than just a race; it was an event that was held to support the local no-kill animal shelter, Webark Estates. Organized by the Ohio Valley Runners and Walkers Club, the fur and fun-filled day ended with all 260 registered runners and walkers crossing the finish line.

The morning started out cold with all participants spending their pre-race time keeping their hands warm. Some walkers spent time warming up their dogs for the race, as well.

For many dogs, this would be their first race and this proved to be an event that will keep people and their pets coming back for years to come. The sun began to warm the pavement and runners took to the starting line, followed by the walkers and then by the pooches and their owners.

Throughout the whole race, there proved to be tough competition for Cedric Robinson, the well known, full-speed runner. Robinson was tailed by Joe Feeney as they turned to complete the second half of the course. But Robinson pulled away leaving only nineteen seconds between him and his competitor.

Similarly, there were only nineteen seconds between the first and second place runner in the overall female class. Christine Lewis and Jennifer Preteroti battled for the first place position, without leaving Karissa Duke far behind.

The dog-walkers experienced a different kind of competition. Many of the dogs seemed eager as they excitedly pulled their owners along. In some cases, pups dragged their paws and took any opportunity to stop for a "potty break". Sharon Lucas' weimaraner took to the course with full speed ahead, leaving some of the other pups in the dust.

Despite the cold start, there was a wonderful turnout in Glen Dale, WV.
